Discipline
We use assertive discipline techniques. There are rules with consequences
for breaking rules and rewards for good behavior. Students have behavior
calendars in their homework folders. They are colored daily. We ask
parents/guardians to check it daily and sign it.
Green is good.
Sometimes verbal warnings are given to students with green cards.
Yellow is a warning. Flipping to yellow is the only consequence.
Orange
constitutes sitting on the bench at recess. There will be a behavior sheet for
the student to complete. A parent or guardian signature is required.
Pink is a loss of
a recess and the possibility of a phone call home. A behavior sheet will be
given to complete. It needs the signature of a parent/guardian. Student will
also need to visit Sr. Mary Alice for her signature.
Christian Values are always a part of our daily lessons.
Homework
Homework will be given Monday-Thursday. There may be occasional weekend
homework but it will usually be for the student that cannot seem to finish in
the allotted class time.
Students should only complete assigned work and should not work ahead.
It is very important to have the supervising adult check to see that
assignments are completed and to sign the homework book daily. Assignments do
not have to be corrected by the parent unless it is the math fact practice. We
want to see any mistakes and we want to know if there were any problems
completing the assignment. Therefore parental help should be limited. It is also
important to know not to write any notes in the homework notebook. We do not
check the notebook every day. Please send notes on a separate sheet.
Any missed assignments will be written in red in the homework book. Students are
responsible for completing them.
Students have a homework folder. The inside pockets are labeled “home” and
“school”. Papers properly placed on the home side may be left at home. Students
should clean out the home side of the folder every day. Make sure math
assignments are graded before discarding them. Papers that were properly placed
on the school side need to be returned to school the next day.
Students should know which papers they need and do not need. Please check with
your second grader before throwing papers out.
The HOMEWORK HOTLINE is a good way to check on assignments. Assignments are on
the hotline Monday thru Thursday. The phone number is 421-4938.The mailbox
number for 2A is 201 and for 2B, 202. Please do not leave any messages on the
voice mail. We are not able to retrieve them.
Homework can also be found on our school website by clicking the homework button
on the left side of the home page.
Absences
All absences need a written excuse upon
return to school. It is kept on file for one year. School policy is also to
call on the morning of absence to inform the office.
In case of absence for illness, a “WE MISSED YOU” sheet will be sent home with
missed assignments to be completed within the week. The sooner they are
completed the better. Parent/guardian signature is required on the sheet. School
policy states that work may be picked up at the office on the 3rd day of
absence. Siblings can usually pick up work at the end of the day.
In case of absence for vacation, students may get their work when they return to
school.
Book
Reports
Book reports will begin in October. We assign one book a month. Students may
choose a book from school, the library or home. It needs to be approved by the
teacher for reading level and the parent/guardian for content. Students will be
given a dated report form to be completed and handed in by the end of each
month.

F for spelling, English, Religion, math, reading, phonics. Science and social
