WELCOME!!
THIRD GRADE
2008-2009
Third grade is the year of RESPONSIBILITY! This year your child
will grow and take responsibility for his or her actions and work. Mrs.
Kastner and Mr. Maciag will be working on developing this responsibility and we
hope you will join us in ensuring this growth in your child.
Over the next few months we will be practicing handwriting, so by October 1st
every third grader will be writing in cursive. Also we have begun
multiplication. We would ask that you take every opportunity to practice
multiplication with your child (for example, while folding socks – you have 3
pairs of socks – 3x2=6). It is so important that the third graders at
Notre Dame are proficient in this area before the end of the school year, when
they actually begin long division in our math program.
Monthly book reports will begin in October. The first one is student’s
choice. Other months will include such things as mysteries, realistic
fiction, biographies, etc. The students will get the directions in either
the last brown envelope of the previous month or the first brown envelope of the
month that it is due. These directions will inform the student exactly how
he/she has to represent his or her book report, not to mention the due date too!
Third grade is the absolute best. We will be working on many Christian
values this year too. Honesty, Do Unto Others… empathy, and teamwork.
Whatever reinforcement these children can get at home will only help our
efforts in developing them in into decent, hardworking, productive adults.
Our mutual goal is the success of your child in the third grade and to develop
them into life-long learners. I know if we all work together, this goal
will be achieved. We look so forward to a great year in third grade.
Thank you
Mrs. Kastner
