HOMEWORK
Homework is a very important part of the academic program and so, in accordance with the principles of good education, the school's policy is to assign homework (either written or study). Homework assignments constitute a carryover of the work that has been covered in class, and this home study provides a reinforcement and enrichment of the material taught. Neglect of homework is a serious offense and we ask that you do not offer excuses unnecessarily. Please discuss the value of both completing assignments and developing personal responsibilities with your children.
Absence from school for illness does not excuse a student from his/her responsibility for assignments. Formal requests for homework assignments can be made by calling the school office if a student is ill for three or more days. Because of a full teaching schedule, twenty-four hours notice is needed to prepare assignments and collect books. If your child is absent for two days and you are certain of a third day of absence, a homework assignment may be requested on day two of the absence to be picked up in the school office by a parent, sibling, or classmate. At the beginning of the school year, students should establish a contact with another student to call for missed assignments involving one or two days. "Buddies" may collect books within the classroom. Books may be requested by calling the school office in the morning, so that they may be collected during lunch time, without causing interruption of class time.
Notre Dame Elementary School has an Internet web site (http://www.ndelementary.org/classes.htm) where students and parents may check for homework assignments.
