Kindergarten
Curriculum
Through the Kindergarten curriculum students are taught various Language Arts
skills, such as: letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words, and basic
punctuation marks. Mathematics is comprised of patterning, sequencing, sorting,
counting, one-digit adding and subtracting, using money, telling time to the
hour, graphing, measurement, and using a calendar. Educators model story-telling
techniques and handwriting. All curriculum areas include a hands-on approach to
learning. Visual aides, worksheets, textbooks, and workbooks are implemented to
teach students through one-on-one, small group, and large group instruction.
Homework is initially presented in Kindergarten. It is given twice a week to
reinforce classroom material. Homework is also used as a form of assessment.
Religious practices play a large role throughout the Kindergarten school day.
Students take part in daily prayers and learn about religious holidays, saints,
and feast days. Kindergarten students are taught to love others as Jesus loves
them. Students practice this by learning about manners and how to respect one
another.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are held in lieu of a traditional Report Card
every November; however, parents have the right to schedule individual
conferences with their child’s teacher at any time throughout the year. A
formal Report Card will be distributed on the last day of school, in June.
